Another Art Community

Our best wishes for 2009 *smiles*

Since Halloween is coming up, today's local paper suggested a Halloween-trip in Europe to visit some famous creepy places. One of them, which made me think of one of our AAC-members, was the former recidence of Dracula. The castle up in the mountains of Transsylvania is actually called "BRAN" !
If you want to take a tour, and read more about Bran, I found this website for you: BRAN

Mortal wound - mmmm Achilles - most of the Celtic/Roman/Greek in fact most mythology ( incl ooops the Bible ) include older stories into them. I am not sure what it all means. But also there is a story of Achilles hiding amongst Women as in "The Isle of Women" - so perhaps there is more to the link between the stories. The foot wound may refer to ancient Kingship cults were the leader had his legs broken or deformed to be like that of a horse or bull - the metalgods similarly like Vulcan had broken limbs. So yes something linking them - possibly some metaphorical language .

The White Goddess/The Greek Myths by Robert Graves gives some insight. There are certainly many common themes between Greek and Celtic/Gaelic stories,

"hero's dying from foot wounds (arrows or poisoned darts), having heads of heroes buried in strategic places as protection."

Of course some of the stories have some historical meaning others maybe embellished stories for entertainment rather like today we have "reality TV" - the line between fact and fiction is blurred.

Did you see Menchu's video St Borondon ? Another Bran mythology?

I'd like to know what a "mortal wound to the foot" is......and I have heard that BRAN has a hard time keeping his head...

Following on from the mythology . . . . it was the reasons for: "let the ravens protect me" on Solstice 2008 Video..

All of which has nothing to do with dracula or his castle. I would like to say in advance that I have no Transylvanian roots, as far as I know. Also I am not a mythological Giant or buried under the Tower of London. Aint life sweet !
